Description of idea
Describe your idea and concept of your work in relation to the festival outlines:
I'm thinking about the relationship between what we are told about the effects of science on our lives and the actual results of scientific practice as it is associated with products, services, and life-stuff in general.
What kind of communication approach do you use?
My work presents imagery and ideas that are based in scientific practice in more aesthetic terms. Basically I am asking the viewer to look more deeply and to question ... everything about how science is a part of how life is lived.
What are in your opinion concrete benefits to the society because of your communication?
I offer both information and informed visualizations about how science is a part, and not always a beneficial part, of our loves in the 21st century.
What did you personally learn from creating your submitted work?
Much more about the effects of the chemical compound "hexane" on different populations world-wide. I am astounded about how much I did not know and that was seemingly hidden away by chemical manufacturers and distributors.
Why is your work, GOOD communication WORK?
This work demands attention of the viewer. I have organized the composition in ways that allow for the connection of traditional depictions of the human with contemporary visualizations of energy and chemistry. I see this merging of traditional art forms with scientific modeling as a way to ask the viewer to step out of believing that simple diagrams of any kind can really communicate the whole story about complex issues.
Where and how do you intent do implement your work?
I will implement this work, along with a number of other that are based on similar themes, in a series of physical and virtual exhibits in India over the next 2-3 years. Accompanying these images will be an audio and textual narrative that defines the purpose and the scope, and the findings, of the investigations I have undertaken in developing these works.
Did your intervention had an effect on other Media. If yes, describe the effect? (Has other media reported on it- how? Were you able to change other media with your work- how?)
